What is LED?

Continuing its fast development as the future of lighting world, LED is composed of the capital letters of Light Emitting Diode. LED is a semiconductor circuit element which transforms electric power to light.


With the researches on semiconductors that gained speed in 1950s following the electromagnetic radiation discovered in the early 1900s, the first LED to emit visible red light was produced and patented in 1962. The LED technology, which came into our lives as a red light appearing on the radio when it’s turned on in old times, now illuminates our world after 50 years. This little red light evolved, changed color, became stronger, and now started to illuminate our lives by wrapping itself in white and to bring color to our environment by turning into red, blue and green.

Although its first purchase cost may be little higher, LED offers a more economical solution in the medium and long term, compared to the lighting systems with conventional lamps, when correct project is followed.
